This targeted course provides a foundational understanding of Project Management principles, centered on the practical and highly visual Project Model Canvas (PMC). The program was developed as a specialized, closed-enrolment training specifically for participants engaged in the "Programa Águas e Paisagem II" (Water and Landscape II Program), a large-scale, strategic initiative by the Government of the State of Espírito Santo.
The curriculum introduces the core concepts of project management, establishing a common language for project initiation and planning. This was custom-designed to address the specific needs of the "Águas e Paisagem II" program—a complex, multi-million-dollar partnership with the World Bank aimed at strengthening water resource management and increasing resilience to extreme hydrological events.
A significant portion of the course is dedicated to mastering the Project Model Canvas. Participants engage in hands-on exercises to deconstruct project ideas using the PMC's intuitive, one-page framework. They learn to systematically define, integrate, and align all critical project components by answering the fundamental questions of 'Why' (justification, objectives), 'What' (scope, deliverables), 'Who' (stakeholders, team), 'How' (key activities, resources), and 'When & How Much' (timeline, costs).
The training emphasized the PMC's immediate utility in navigating the complexities of the "Águas e Paisagem II" initiative. Participants explored how to use the canvas to achieve clarity and stakeholder alignment on projects spanning institutional strengthening, nature-based solutions, infrastructure development, and Payment for Environmental Services (PSA). The methodology provides a vital tool for managing the program's diverse components and ensuring that individual projects remain tightly aligned with the overarching goals of enhancing water security and mitigating climate-related risks.
By the end of the course, participants were equipped with a practical and collaborative methodology to effectively conceptualize, define, and communicate projects. This training provides the foundational skills necessary to drive effective project initiation, fostering greater efficiency and strategic alignment within the demanding context of a critical state-wide environmental program.
